Portugal is the European Nation-State with the oldest established boundaries.
It is located in the western most point of continental Europe and, through the millenniums, has been visited and inhabited by all the major civilizations of the Mediterranean basin, as well as peoples from central and northern Europe. It was from Portugal that the spread of western culture and civilization first took off, creating the conditions for what we now call globalization.
It was in this melting pot of cultures, languages, customs and fates that the character of the Portuguese Man was formed; creating a new type which was acceptant of what was new and foreign, and open to miscegenation, discovery and beauty. In other words, the Renaissance Man.
